Si algo aclara la Biblia es el hecho de que el secreto de todas las buenas nuevas de Dios para el hombre se centra en el Calvario. Debido a que Cristo iba a morir por el pecado, Dios pudo proclamar las buenas nuevas a los pecadores a lo largo de los siglos.
No fue hasta algún tiempo después de la crucifixión, sin embargo, que “la predicación de la cruz” fue ampliamente proclamada como un mensaje de Pablo en “el evangelio [buenas nuevas] de la gracia de Dios” (Hechos 20:24; I Cor. 1:18).
La proclamación del “evangelio de la gracia de Dios” fue el acompañamiento natural de la revelación de la cruz como el secreto de las buenas nuevas de Dios para el hombre. En esta proclamación de Su sobreabundante gracia a los pecadores, todo se centra en la cruz.
Según las epístolas de Pablo, “tenemos redención por su sangre [la de Cristo]” (Efesios 1:7), somos “justificados por su sangre” (Romanos 5:9), “reconciliados con Dios por la muerte de su Hijo” (Rom. 5:10), “hecho cercano por la sangre de Cristo” (Ef. 2:13) y “hecho en él justicia de Dios” porque Dios “lo hizo pecado por nosotros” (11 Cor. 5:21).
El “pacto” de la ley fue abolido por la cruz (Col. 2:14), la maldición de la ley fue quitada por la cruz (Gálatas 3:13), la “pared intermedia de separación” fue derribada por la cruz. cruz (Efesios 2:14) y los creyentes en Cristo son reconciliados con Dios en un cuerpo por la cruz (Efesios 2:16). ¡No es de extrañar que Pablo llame a su mensaje “la predicación de la cruz”!
Para el creyente es emocionante ver la cruz como la respuesta de Dios a Satanás cuando, a primera vista, ¡parecía que el Calvario había sido el mayor triunfo de Satanás! Así podemos exclamar con Pablo:
“¡Pero lejos esté de mí gloriarme, sino en la cruz de nuestro Señor Jesucristo!” (Gálatas 6:14).
Últimamente ha habido mucha discusión sobre algunos astrólogos hindúes que han predicho que este mundo llegará a su fin este febrero. El hecho es que algunos cristianos sinceros temen que estos profetas puedan tener razón, ya que nuestro Señor habló varias veces sobre la llegada del “fin del mundo”.
Estos astrólogos hindúes, sin embargo, están equivocados. Este febrero no verá el fin del mundo, porque según la Biblia el mundo, o la tierra, nunca llegará a su fin. La palabra “mundo”, que nuestro Señor usa en este sentido, no se refiere a la tierra, ni siquiera a las personas que la habitan. Es la antigua palabra griega aion, o edad. Varias eras en el programa de Dios ya han llegado a su fin, y otras lo harán, pero no importa qué armas destructivas pueda diseñar el hombre, la tierra nunca será destruida. En Isaías 45:18 leemos:
“Porque así dice el Señor que creó los cielos: Dios mismo que formó la tierra y la hizo; Él lo ha establecido; No lo creó en vano; Él la formó para ser habitada: Yo soy el Señor, y no hay otro.”
Pero, ¿no predice Apocalipsis 21:1 “un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva”? Sí, pero el contexto indica claramente que esto se refiere a la futura renovación del cielo y la tierra presentes, no a la creación de otros diferentes. El versículo 5 dice:
“El que estaba sentado en el trono: dijo: He aquí, yo hago nuevas todas las cosas.”
Nota: Él no dijo “hago todas las cosas nuevas”, sino “hago nuevas todas las cosas”. Hay una diferencia.
No debemos preocuparnos por el fin del mundo, sino por el fin de esta era presente en la que vivimos bajo “la dispensación de la gracia de Dios”, porque Dios nunca ha prometido cuánto durará esto. Cada hora que demora el regreso de Cristo para llamar a sus embajadores, es una hora de maravillosa gracia, en la cual los hombres pueden ser salvos por gracia, por medio de la fe en Cristo que murió por nuestros pecados. Por eso Pablo nos exhorta:
“Nosotros, pues, como colaboradores con [Cristo], os rogamos también que no recibáis la gracia de Dios en vano…. He aquí, ahora es el tiempo aceptable; He aquí ahora el día de salvación” (II Corintios 6:1,2).
Cuatro niños jugaban juntos cuando uno comenzó a portarse mal acaparando todos los juguetes. Cuando el razonamiento y las nalgadas no funcionaron, siguió el castigo sentado en el sofá. A este niño se le dijo que se sentara allí y mirara el reloj hasta que la mano grande estuviera sobre el diez. Desafortunadamente, el niño se levantaba repetidamente del sofá. Cada vez se agregaban diez minutos adicionales al tiempo de castigo junto con la advertencia de que una paliza sería el resultado de su desobediencia continua.
Todo individuo no salvo vive en una pendiente resbaladiza y precaria. En cualquier momento podrían ser arrastrados a la eternidad donde todos los perdidos estarán ante un Dios justo que juzgará severamente sus pecados. Pablo llama a esto “… el día de la ira y de la revelación del justo juicio de Dios …” (Romanos 2: 5). Ellos pueden pensar que pueden “… escapar del juicio de Dios” (2: 3), pero el castigo eterno es cierto para cada individuo que “… menosprecia …las riquezas de su benignidad, paciencia y longanimidad…” (2: 4). Actualmente, Dios ofrece perdón y vida eterna a todos los que confíen en Cristo. Pero aquellos que tercamente resisten el cortejo del Espíritu Santo y rechazan la fe en Cristo Jesús están acumulando castigo e intensificando la ira de Dios con cada acto rebelde. Romanos 2: 5 lo describe de esta manera: “Pero por tu dureza y por tu corazón no arrepentido, atesoras para ti mismo ira para el día de la ira y de la revelación del justo juicio de Dios”. Como el agua contenida detrás de una gran presa, la ira de Dios está presente frenado por su amor, gracia y misericordia. Pero. así como la abundancia de lluvia tormentosa puede hacer que el agua destruya una presa en furiosos remolinos de destrucción hacia todos los ríos, eventualmente la ira de Dios se liberará para castigar a cada alma perdida. No será culpa de Dios cuando su ira caiga sobre las almas perdidas tampoco. La gracia ha sido pacientemente ofrecida a todos. Hasta el día en que el castigo divino recaiga sobre las almas perdidas, el pecado de cada individuo no salvo se acumula y aumenta el tormento que experimentarán en la eternidad.
Hace poco, un alma perdida me habló de un amigo de veintidós años que murió en un accidente automovilístico. Me dijo: “No sabía que su vida terminaría en treinta minutos”. Nosotros que conocemos a Cristo como Salvador debemos tener en cuenta la amenaza de la ira de Dios sobre las almas perdidas que están dentro de nuestra esfera de influencia. Habla hoy con un alma perdida sobre su necesidad de vida eterna. Mañana puede ser demasiado tarde.
Four children were playing together when one began to misbehave by hoarding all the toys. When reasoning and spanking didn’t work, time out on the couch followed. This child was told to sit there and watch the clock until the big hand was on the ten. Unfortunately, the child repeatedly slithered off the couch. Each time an additional ten minutes was added to the time out along with the warning that a spanking would result for continued disobedience.
Every unsaved individual lives on a precarious slippery slope. At any moment they could be swept into eternity where all the lost will stand before a just God who will severely judge their sins. Paul calls this “…the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God…”(Romans 2:5). They may think they can “…escape the judgment of God” (2:3), but eternal punishment is certain for every individual who “…despiseth…the riches of His [God’s] goodness and forbearance and longsuffering…”(2:4). Presently, God offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who will trust in Christ. But those who stubbornly resist the wooing of the Holy Spirit and reject faith in Christ Jesus are accumulating punishment and intensifying God’s wrath with every rebellious act. Romans 2:5 describes it this way: “But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.” Like water being restrained behind a huge dam, God’s wrath is presently held back by His love, grace, and mercy. But just as an abundance of stormy rain can cause the water to break over a dam in angry swirls of destruction to all downstream, eventually God’s wrath will be released to punish every lost soul. It won’t be God’s fault when His wrath falls on lost souls either. Grace has been patiently offered to all. Until the day when divine punishment falls on lost souls, the sin of every unsaved individual accumulates and increases the torment they will experience in eternity.
A lost soul was recently telling me about talking with a friend who, at the age of twenty-two, died in a fatal car wreck. My friend said, “He had no clue his life would be over in thirty minutes.” We who know Christ as Savior must keep in mind the looming wrath of God on lost souls who are within our sphere of influence. Speak to a lost soul about their need of eternal life today. Tomorrow may be too late.
Paul’s same old routine involved entering a city and making a beeline for the synagogue (v.1). But he didn’t pass over Amphipolis and Apollonia because God told him He hadn’t chosen any of those people to be saved. His new routine was to target big cities and let the gospel radiate out from them to small towns like those, and it worked (cf. IThes.1:8).
But why did he go to synagogues if he was “the apostle of the Gentiles” (Rom.11:13)? It was to provoke them to get saved (v.14) by magnifying his office to the Gentiles. “Emulation” is a form of jealousy that makes you want to emulate someone, and “emulate” means to want to equal or excel you at what you’re doing. Paul was doing the Jews’ job of reaching the Gentiles, and magnifying his office would make them want to get saved and join him in reaching the Gentiles. Some did, and became his equals, his fellows (Col.4:10,11). Saved Jews will excel Paul at reaching the Gentiles in the kingdom (Rom.11:12; Isa.11:9). In the meantime, God’s Word says that the best way to reach the Jews is by magnifying Paul’s apostleship to the Gentiles, as we do.
Paul was only in Thessalonica 3 sabbath days (Acts 17:2), or 14 days total, but the Philippians sent him money there “once and again” (Phil.4:15,16)—and they only had one messenger to do it (Phil.2:25-30). How’d you like to walk 400 miles in 14 days? Paul says to hold Christians like that “in reputation.”
Paul preached boldly in Thessalonica, even though it got him beaten and imprisoned in Philippi (IThes.2:2). It took bold-ness to do that because Jews didn’t want to believe their messiah was crucified (ICor.1:23). Crucifixion was the death of crooks, not Christs. This proves that Jews like Abraham and David weren’t saved by believing Christ would someday die for their sins, as some say (cf.Gal.3:8). There were verses that said Christ would die, but Jews preferred the verses that said He would make their enemies die (cf.Lu.1:68-75). Paul proved Jesus was Israel’s Christ (Acts 17:3) by quoting verses like Genesis 49:10, Micah 5:2, and Isaiah 35:4-6.
When “some” Jews believed, but “a great multitude” of Gentiles believed (Acts 17:4), that’s a picture of how the Body of Christ is made up of both, but this is a primarily Gentile dispensation.
“Envy” (17:5) is another form of jealousy, the bad kind (cf. Acts13:44,45). “Lewd” means lustful, and “base” means low, like the base of something is the lowest part. Envy in the heart of a few men ended with a city in an uproar, so don’t let it get so much as a toehold in your life (cf.Mt.27:17,18).
They assaulted “the house of Jason” because they thought Paul was staying with family (cf.Rom.16:21), but he wasn’t (Acts 17:6). They were right/ Paul was turning the world upside-down, but Adam had turned it upside down, so turning it upside-down again would turn it right side up. Paul did it with grace, but after the age of grace ends at the Rapture, the gloves are coming off, and God will turn the world upside-down with wrath. He’ll start with Israel, because they should have known better (IIKi.21:12-15; IPet.4:17). But after that, He’ll turn the whole world upside-down in judgment (Isa. 24:1,19). For now, He wants it turned upside down with grace, and not with angry petitions and protest marches.
If the charge of doing things contrary to Caesar sounds familiar, it’s because that’s what they charged the Lord with (Lu.23:1,2). If the reaction Paul got sounds familiar (Acts 17:8,9), it’s because that’s the reaction the Lord got (John 19:12). I Thessalonians 4:13-17 indicates that some of the believing Thessalonian Jews were killed. That’s why Paul chose that church to talk to them about how the dead in Christ will precede the living at the Rapture (IThes.4:13-17). The dead in Christ in Thessalonica hadn’t died of malaria, they died of persecution.

This author’s unsaved brother relates the story of an acquaintance with a Hindu man from India. This man said, “Our faith is the only true religion in the world.” My brother’s emphatic response was, “Followers of every religion in the world think they are right and that theirs is the only true religion.” My response to my brother is that the faith of Christians is not a blind faith, but a faith based on the rock solid foundation of fulfilled prophecy, a risen Savior, and historical accuracy.
To begin with, everyone has faith. Even atheists have faith that there is no God, heaven, or hell. Yet, in a time of tragedy (such as it was on 9/11), nearly everyone, even atheists, instinctively use God’s name asking for His help. Romans 1:19 refers to mankind’s God-consciousness when it says, “… that which may be known of God is manifest in them, for God hath shewed it unto them.” Other religions have mortal prophets who promoted their philosophies, but Christians have a Divine Savior who has many documented miracles to back up His teachings. Other religions have leaders that simply died, but Christians have a Redeemer who paid for their sins through His death. Then the Lord Jesus “…shewed himself alive…by many infallible proofs…” (Acts 1:3), and He is “…declared to be the Son of God with power…by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). The resurrection of our Savior was “…seen of above five hundred brethren at once…” (I Corinthians 15:6), and was witnessed by unbelieving Roman soldiers. Other religions often produce cruel, savage, and ruthless behavior on the part of their followers, such as we see in Muslim countries. While professing Christianity has produced many atrocities, such as the Spanish Inquisition, true Christianity seeks to follow “…the doctrine which is according to godliness” (I Timothy 6:3). There are countless examples of Christians living transformed lives that honor Christ and society. Other religions have books they follow, but Christians have an inspired Bible that has been proven true though hundreds of fulfilled prophecies, historically correct accounts, and archeology that constantly confirm its accuracy. Moreover, God’s Word has power to transform lives into godliness superior to any book used by other faiths.
Believer, you need not cower in the face of those who ridicule your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible. Stand strong in the abundance of evidence proving our Bible is true and that Jesus Christ is the true only Savior.

Dile hoy a tu mujer virtuosa que aprecias mucho su piedad, que eso la convierte en una verdadera “esposa trofeo”. Si todavía no estás casado, este es el tipo de mujer que deberías estar buscando. Si eres una mujer que no se siente satisfecha, estas cualidades se desarrollan completamente en ti, no te desanimes. En cambio, pídele al Señor que te ayude a hacer crecer estas virtudes, y trabaja hoy en oración en varias de ellas.
Proverbs 31:10 asks the question, “Who can find a virtuous woman?” Webster’s dictionary defines the word “virtuous” as “general moral excellence, goodness of character, or chaste.” The end of verse ten goes on to say if you can find such a woman: “her price [or worth] is far above rubies.” The standard here is not an unrealistic perfection in all areas of life. Instead, it is an inward beauty of character and morals that can make any woman who seeks to cultivate these qualities a highly valued woman to all who know her.
We actually have several biblical examples of virtuous women. Ruth was told all the city knew she was a “virtuous woman” (Ruth 3:11), for her devotion to Jehovah, loving care for her mother-in-law, work ethic, and humility to listen to instruction. The virtue of Sarah is described in I Peter 3:4-6 for her submission to her husband with a “meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” Proverbs 31 emphasizes several qualities of a virtuous woman. She is worthy of her husband’s trust (v. 11), will always do her husband good and not evil (v. 12), and diligently and consistently “worketh willingly” to advance family finances (vs. 13-24). She conducts herself with “strength and honor” (v. 25), “openeth her mouth with wisdom [or discretion], …and kindness” (v. 26), and “looketh well to the ways of her household” without engaging in “idleness” (v. 27). Verse 30 seems to also imply that while she may possess or desire outward beauty, she realizes this is “vain”, or empty, and fleeting. Therefore, she places a higher value on the inner beauty of the virtues studied above, and she does so because she has godliness, or is “a woman that feareth the Lord.”
If you are a man who has found a virtuous woman, you are greatly blessed. Proverbs tells us “a prudent wife is from the Lord” (19:14) and she is “a crown to her husband” (12:4). Tell your virtuous woman today that you greatly appreciate her godliness, which makes her a true “trophy wife.” If you’re not yet married, this is the kind of woman you should be looking for. If you are a woman who is not satisfied these qualities are developed fully enough in you, don’t be discouraged. Instead, ask the Lord to help you grow in these virtues, and prayerfully work on several of them today.
