This episode answers the question “What happened to Israel?” by showing first what didn’t happen: the Church did not replace Israel, and God has not canceled His irrevocable covenant promises to her. In Galatians 6:15–16, the Apostle Paul teaches that the Body of Christ is a new creation, distinct from Israel, while “the Israel of God” refers to believing Israelites from the kingdom program—not the Church. Replacement theology fails because it spiritualizes Israel’s promises and undermines God’s faithfulness. Understanding this distinction brings confidence, because the same God who remains faithful to Israel is also faithful to the Body of Christ and to every promise He has made to us.

In this lesson on Romans 9, we see that Israel’s national fall was not a failure of God’s promises, but the result of Israel rejecting her greatest privilege—Christ Himself. Through examples like Isaac over Ishmael and Jacob over Esau, the Apostle Paul demonstrates God’s sovereign right to work in unexpected ways—including temporarily setting Israel aside to show mercy to the Gentiles. Israel stumbled at Christ the “stumblingstone,” and in this age of grace, God is saving both Jews and Gentiles individually, while preserving Israel for a future restoration when His promises to her will be fulfilled.

In this message, Romans 11 explains that Israel has not been permanently cast away—her rejection of Christ caused a temporary fall, opening the door for God to bring salvation to the Gentiles in this present dispensation of grace. Israel’s current blindness is only partial and temporary, however, lasting “until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in,” after which God will restore Israel, save the believing remnant which survives the Tribulation, and fulfill all His covenant promises in Christ’s earthly kingdom.
