This lesson looks at Paul’s faithful co-worker, Onesiphorus, who was particularly useful in any situation—helping Paul in “many things”—and was bound to the apostle and stuck by him when others did not. After faithfully ministering to Paul in Ephesus, Onesiphorus then boldly traveled to Rome, diligently sought Paul out in prison, refreshed him often with kindness and presence, and was “not ashamed of my chain” despite the mortal danger. Paul’s prayer for Onesiphorus at the Judgment Seat of Christ, when rewards will be given to members of the Body of Christ for faithful service, presents Onesiphorus as a powerful example for believers today to courageously stand unashamed with Paul and the gospel of grace.
