This lesson illustrates how genuine love and actions validate the gospel message. In 1 Thessalonians 2, the Apostle Paul defends the sincerity of his ministry in Thessalonica against enemies who accused him of self-seeking motives, reminding believers there that his entrance was “not in vain,” as many were saved and a strong church was formed. Paul was entrusted with and boldly preached the gospel of the grace of God —up against “much contention”— sourced in God and free from seeking personal glory or financial gain. Instead, Paul lived and spoke to please God, not men, modeling an exemplary witness that backs up words with Christlike character and integrity.
