The Apostle Paul compares our present bodies to temporary tents, which are meant to make us long for our true home with the Lord. This message is a reminder that even when this earthly “tent” is taken down in death, believers know they have a permanent, God‑made, eternal body waiting in heaven. Paul groans not for death itself but for the Rapture, when mortality will be “swallowed up” by life and believers will instantly receive glorified bodies like Christ’s. Until then, those who die are “absent from the body, and… present with the Lord,” fully conscious and at rest, awaiting the day when body and spirit reunite in eternal glory.
