In this lesson, we see how Timothy, a co-worker of the Apostle Paul, demonstrated the self-giving, self-emptying love of the Savior in his life, helping to fulfill Paul’s ministry as the apostle to the Gentiles. Raised by a believing Jewish mother and grandmother in a mixed household, the young disciple was recruited by Paul on his second missionary journey. Paul then had Timothy circumcised for effective ministry among Jews, and took him as a faithful traveling companion for about 12 years. Paul called Timothy his “likeminded” son in the faith, praising him as a proven, selfless servant who sought “the things which are Jesus Christ’s”—not his own—through dangers, hardships, and humble labor.
