After two full years of being forgotten in prison, Joseph is summoned when Pharaoh has two troubling, parallel dreams—each predicting years of plenty followed by famine. In this teaching, we see how Joseph humbly credits God alone for the dream interpretations and wisely advises Pharaoh to appoint an administrator to store grain during the abundant years so the land will not perish. Impressed by Joseph’s wisdom, Pharaoh instantly promotes him to second-in-command over all Egypt—illustrating how God sovereignly turns affliction into exaltation, and picturing the sufferings of Christ followed by His glory.
