We’ve all experienced fear at one time or another. In this episode, we see Joseph’s father Jacob feeling a sense of dread, and how his brothers also experienced much fear during their interaction with Joseph prior to his revealing. As severe famine grips the land, Jacob reluctantly sends his sons back to Egypt—this time with his youngest, Benjamin—to secure food. Upon arrival, the brothers are convinced that an invitation to Joseph’s house for lunch is a trap over a previous “transgression,” and that they will be enslaved. Joseph, however, displaces their fears with unexpected favor by hosting them to a gracious banquet, foreshadowing God’s overwhelming mercy and grace toward guilty sinners through Christ.
