The lesson dramatically recounts the trap set by scribes and Pharisees in John 8, who drag a woman caught in adultery before Jesus—testing if He will uphold Moses’ law by stoning her. Jesus stoops twice to write silently in the dust, then stands and declares, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her,” exposing the accusers’ guilt. Alone with the woman, Jesus upholds the law yet extends mercy, saying, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more,” because He would soon bear her (and our) sins on the Cross, calling her (and us) to a transformed life of gratitude and obedience.
