This study presents the dramatic conclusion of Stephen’s speech before the Sanhedrin in Acts 7, where he directly indicts them as “stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears”—while they boasted in the law they failed to keep. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Stephen sees Jesus standing at the right hand of God, which enrages the council into a violent mob that casts Stephen out and stones him. As he dies, Stephen prays for his persecutors and falls asleep in peace, his martyrdom marking Israel’s national fall and the temporary suspension of her prophetic program, leading into the current age of God’s grace.
